The Big John loader mounted Tree Transplanter is a formidable tool for moving large volumes of trees on sight (depending on haul distance & job conditions). It is also the ideal setup for balling tree root balls from 20"- 90". The downside to loader mounted units is that it is not feasible to transport trees over the road for any appreciable distance. A truck mounted unit will give you the most flexibility as far as you can move trees both on sight and over the road.
If you are contemplating purchasing a loader mounted Big John unit you must be careful to size your loader appropriately for the size tree spade that you need. It is a common mistake to assume that if your loaders lifting capacity is equal to the weight of the loaded Transplanter that your unit will handle the Big John package. One must also consider the load center of the tree Transplanter vs. a normal loader bucket. The tree Transplanter has the greater load center between the two. In other words it projects out further than the bucket by a good margin. This is important because the farther away your load projects beyond the normal load center (that of a bucket) the more lifting capacity that you will loose. This is why we it is important that you consult with us in order that we might assist you in your host loader selection.
